Note from Chairman Schostak Michigan Republicans are off to a great start! Our 2014 Republican candidates are making positive inroads with Michiganders as they travel the state. Poll after poll, Republicans continue to lead their Democratic challengers by significant margins.
It is clear Michigan families support the true leadership Republicans have demonstrated as we continue to move the state forward.
A few weeks ago, Governor Snyder aired a new ad during the 2014 Super Bowl. Gov. Snyder’s message reminded families of all we’ve done together and sent a powerful message to the hardworking citizens of Michigan: The Comeback State is here to stay.
The following day, Gov. Snyder officially launched his re-election campaign with the two-day “Comeback Story Tour” across Michigan. He emphasized top priorities at each of his stops, including his focus on building a strong economy, creating jobs and investing in education.
Also this month, Terri Lynn Land’s bid to win Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat continued gaining positive momentum in all corners of the state. Earlier this month, she released a new video highlighting her roots in Michigan and accomplishments as Secretary of State.
Michigan has come a long way from the failed policies of the Lost Decade. Under the lack of leadership from Democrats like Rep. Gary Peters and failed one-term Rep. Mark Schauer, Michigan families were forced to split up in order to find work, taxes skyrocketed, personal income dropped and regulations burdened our businesses and economic growth.
Voters are now seeing the distinct differences between the successful policies of Republicans, versus the Democrats’ Lost Decade. Our families are being heard, and the results of our comeback speak for itself.
The Michigan Republican Party also had an exciting month with new allies, big technology updates and community events.
At the end of the month, we proudly announced the rollout of our new MI Team Dashboard. This new tool will give volunteers the ability to be campaign managers of their precincts and help us in getting out the vote this fall. If you haven’t signed up for the MI Team Dashboard, I encourage you to take a few minutes and get signed up today!
The Michigan Republican Party was also honored to host our First Annual Black History Month Celebration and Awards Banquet at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. The event was a huge success, drawing a crowd of nearly 200 guests to honor our five award recipients Bill Brooks, Henry Hatter, Kim Hoppe, Eunice Jeffries and Ira Combs for their outstanding contributions. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given and named after our good friend Bill Brooks for his lifelong commitment to our community, state and country. To commemorate this special night, the Michigan Republican Party donated $5,000 to the Charles H. Wright Museum.
With February come and gone, our state party is proud to be where we’re at today – but there is still plenty more work to do. I hope you will join us in our efforts to elect Republicans this fall so we can keep Michigan moving forward!
