LANSING — Speaker of the House Jase Bolger today announced the appointment of Norman J. Saari as the new Chief of Staff for the Michigan House of Representatives.
Saari, who currently serves as the manager of appointments for Gov. Rick Snyder, will begin his duties in the House on Monday, Aug. 26.
“Norm’s vast experience, strong relationships and stalwart personality will provide the steady hand we need to keep expanding our record of outstanding achievements,” said Bolger, R-Marshall. “We have a strong team here that Suzanne Miller Allen helped build — a team that will stay focused on a positive course for Michigan through the rest of this term and a House Republican majority well into the future.”
Saari worked from 2007 to 2010 as the chief of staff for state Sen. Jason Allen. Previously, Saari worked in various positions for Consumers Energy Co. for more than 30 years, including executive director of governmental affairs from 1986-2006.
“I am looking forward to helping to lead such a strong team of dedicated individuals who continue to demonstrate their commitment to doing what is right for the future of Michigan,” Saari said. “I feel fortunate this opportunity came along. A lot of work has been done but there is still so much to do to make Michigan a better place for generations of families who call this state home.”
A graduate of Michigan State University, Saari also has been a newspaper reporter and served as public information officer in the Michigan National Guard after earning his commission from Officer Candidate School offered through the Michigan Military Academy.
Saari is taking over as the House Chief of Staff following the departure of Suzanne Miller Allen, whose last day is Sept. 3.
